The brand passed through British Leyland, BMW, and Ford ownership before Tata Motors of India acquired Jaguar Land Rover in 2008. Under Tata, Land Rover significantly expanded its product range and global reach. The current-generation Defender, relaunched in 2020, revived the brand's heritage nameplate in a modernized form.
