Short General History
Subaru is the automobile division of Fuji Heavy Industries, founded in 1953 in Japan. The brand is known for two distinctive engineering signatures: its horizontally-opposed Boxer engine and the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which it has applied consistently across most of its lineup since the 1970s. Subaru gained global recognition through the World Rally Championship in the 1990s and early 2000s, winning multiple manufacturers' and drivers' championships with the Impreza WRC. Toyota acquired approximately 20% of Subaru's parent company in 2019. In Southeast Asia, Subaru holds a niche but loyal customer base.
